- Japanese-style seafood gastropub Hakodate Dining Gaya Bay Area has reopened after renovation near La Vista Hakodate Bay Hotel and the Bay Area not far from the Hakodate Morning Market. It is nestled on the same side of the street as Meijikan, a popular tourist destination. The establishment occupies a building inspired by traditional fisherman’s lodges, and features Western-style interior. The structure was renovated using red bricks made in 1874 that had been recovered from the red brick warehouse the gastropub once occupied. It consists of a stylish open-ceilinged grand hall and raised tatami-floor areas. The grand hall features 100 robata-style grill seats, including 20 counter seats, 56 table seats, and 24 seats on raised tatami-floor areas. The spacious hall is perfect for large groups. The raised tatami-floor areas have horigotatsu-style tables with sunken leg room for a relaxing dining experience. The pub also has a large parking space.
Hakodate Dining Gaya Bay Area boasts a great selection of seafood rice bowl sets and meal platters. The live seafood tanks installed inside and in front of the pub display live squid, crab, seasonal fish, shellfish, and more. The freshness of the seafood is guaranteed as dishes are prepared to order. The dinner menu features a variety of dishes prepared mainly using locally sourced ingredients, including fresh seafood from the waters off Hakodate, Onuma beef, and seasonal vegetables from local farms, all complemented by an extensive selection of alcoholic beverages.
